Hezbollah condemns ‘treacherous assassination’ of Al-Housh Mosque imam by Israel

The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has strongly condemned Israel's "treacherous assassination" of Ali Nour al-Deen, who served as the imam of Al-Housh Mosque and was also identified as a journalist.

An Israeli drone strike in the Al-Housh area of Tyre District, southern Lebanon, killed al-Deen on Monday.

According to a statement from Hezbollah’s Media Relations Office, the attack constitutes a war crime.

“This adds to the enemy’s record, already filled with brutal crimes against journalists, civilians, and humanity as a whole,” the Hezbollah statement said.

The statement described al-Deen as a "martyred journalist" and imam, saying Israel is escalating attacks aimed at silencing media voices and free speech.

Hezbollah condemned the strike as part of a pattern of systematic targeting of journalists, civilians, and humanity, urging Lebanese and international media organizations, unions, and human rights groups to condemn the incident and demand an end to "Zionist barbarism."

“This calls upon all journalists, the Ministry of Information, media organizations, unions, institutions, as well as political and intellectual figures, to act and raise their voices loudly in all local, Arab, and international forums—especially human rights, legal, and humanitarian arenas—to stop this Zionist barbarism,” the statement said.

The resistance movement extended condolences to al-Deen’s family and the Lebanese media community.

The strike occurred amid ongoing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, which have continued near-daily since a November 2024 ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. More than 4,000 people were killed, and 17,000 others were injured.

Under the ceasefire, Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon completely, but have only partially pulled out, maintaining a military presence at five outposts.
